FACILITIES AND GROUNDS COORDINATOR (CONTRACT POSITION)

Each year, more than 300,000 children across the United States begin their path to healing through the compassionate care of Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs). Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center is proud to be one of Alabama’s 36 CACs, working daily to bring hope, healing, and justice to children and teens who have experienced the unimaginable.

At Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, we know that a healing space matters. Our physical environment — from the safety of our buildings to the serenity of our Butterfly Healing Garden — plays a vital role in supporting children and families during their most vulnerable moments. We are currently seeking a hands-on, resourceful, and community-minded individual to help us maintain and enhance that environment at our Clanton location in Chilton County.

About the Role

The Facilities & Grounds Coordinator is a part-time, contract position responsible for overseeing the general upkeep, functionality, and beauty of our Clanton facility, outdoor grounds, and the Butterfly Healing Garden. This individual will work up to 15 hours per month (hours may fluctuate seasonally), with flexible scheduling, including the potential for evening or weekend hours when needed.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys creative problem-solving, and can connect with others to get things done — whether completing tasks hands-on or rallying community volunteers for larger projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs at the Clanton facility

• Oversee and execute seasonal care and upkeep of outdoor grounds, including flower beds, trees, lawns, and common spaces

• Follow a provided garden care and maintenance plan for the Butterfly Healing Garden

• Maintain equipment, tools, and supplies necessary for repairs and groundskeeping

• Coordinate and monitor contracted services as needed (e.g., pest control, landscaping, changing HVAC filters, etc.)

• Utilize an annual maintenance and grounds budget effectively, seeking cost-saving opportunities where possible

• Recruit, coordinate, and supervise volunteer groups for facility or garden projects

• Communicate regularly with staff leadership about ongoing and upcoming needs

What We’re Looking For

A connector — someone who builds relationships and knows how to get people and projects moving

• A doer — someone who is dependable, proactive, and can work independently to get tasks done on time

• A resourceful problem-solver — someone who knows how to stretch a budget, find creative fixes, and adapt as needs arise

• A community-minded individual who believes in our mission and takes pride in maintaining a welcoming and healing environment

Preferred Skills & Experience

• General facility maintenance and basic carpentry experience a plus

• Familiarity with gardening, landscaping, and seasonal plant care

• Ability to lift, carry, and perform physical outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions

• Comfort communicating with vendors, staff, and community members

• Previous volunteer or project coordination experience preferred

• Access to basic tools and equipment is a plus, but not required. We’re happy to help supplement or maintain tools as needed to ensure you’re equipped for the job.

Compensation & Commitment

• Contract position at $22 per hour

• Maximum of 15 hours per month (less may be needed during winter months)

• Includes an annual maintenance and grounds budget to manage

• Flexible schedule with potential evening/weekend work

• *Must pass a criminal background check and the DHR Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry check

• Work is limited to the Clanton facility
